SoundCafe Football Health & Well-Being

Using the power of sport and recreation, our Football Health & Well-Being sessions aim to promote physical activity, social interaction, and mental well-being.  A strong emphasis is placed on combating social isolation, exclusion, and loneliness, and helping our guests to gain a sense of team spirit and belonging.

The project began in October 2019 as a pilot – just an hour of evening play.  It was quickly clear that it met a real need.  During the pandemic, we adapted: warm-up sessions (some led by participants), non-contact play, and socially distanced lunches, keeping the focus on well-being as much as sport.

We have also delivered mental health and well-being workshops including outdoor trips to Bradgate Park.

Our “SoundCafe Foxes” team has held three football festivals to date, drawing teams from across the East Midlands.

From September we will be offering regular monthly fun play sessions alongside our annual football festival at St Margaret’s Pastures Sports Centre.

How you can support the future of SCL Football Health & Well-Being

There are a number of ways in which you can support our fun play and annual festival:

  • fund our football fun sessions
  • fund the costs of refreshments (lunch) for 16 players;
  • provide sponsorship to fund the football kit;
  • sponsor the annual SCL Homeless Football Health & Well-Being football tournament.
